Ozobots have been a very engaging introduction to Tinkertime.
introduction
To introduce the Ozobots, we used the resources from the Ozobot website to show how to code using the colours that Ozobots recognise. The students experimented with the code and learnt a lot about how the Ozobots operated. We created packs for the students to use which had a coding sheet, a sheet for resyncing their Ozobots and a pack of black,, red, blue and green sharpies.
The aim of this project was to turn a fairytale into an Ozobot adventure where the Ozobot becomes the hero.
Solving mazes and fairytale Storymaps.
The next part of our Ozobot quest was to solve mazes. The students were given large photocopies of mazes that they had to solve collaboratively. They also used the code to tell the Ozobots which way it needed to go. The students then chose a fairytale. They created a visual story map using the fairytale as a guide. They had to create a pathway for the Ozobot to follow that would show the sequence of the story. The students also needed to consider what the Ozobot would do at each part of the story. Will it fight the villain? Will it hide?
Practising Ozoblockly.
we then headed to the Ozoblockly website, to then learn the Ozoblockly code. The students were given the task of turning their Ozobot into code, which they would upload onto the Ozobot. They will then create the scenery and characters for their Ozobot adventure. Our next phase will see the students dents filming and narrating their Ozobots adventure!
