Often the experience of Making or STEM education is given to students in an educational setting but is not one always experienced at home. It was felt that it was important for students to not only to have the experience at school but that learning and creativity can take place at home.
We also wanted to involve the whole family in the Tinkertime experience. We received a grant from the Association of Independent Schools, which enabled the purchase of components which the students would use to form the basis of a Two Dimensional version of their Place in Space. Packs were put together with the components of a coin cell battery, copper wire, stick on lights and instructions were each student took home to create a poster that lit up. The results reflected the many unique and individual families. They were brought to school and each child explained their idea. The instruction sheet had ideas for using the components to make a simple circuit. They were referred to chibitronics.com/ which helped with completing the project. |
